June Meau-Faux, Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau, undersea explorer, writer, filmmaker

Born June 11, 1910, Jacques Cousteau was a visionary underwater Meau-Faux in the true tradition of the genre. The dude who actually invented breathing underwater no less! Spy, war hero, commando and cinematic pioneer, Cousteau perhaps did more to change the framework of human perception excepting perhaps the Wright Brothers. His films, exploration and risk-taking were part of the culture of discovery and wonder in the 1960 and his observations initiated much of the ecological consciousness that marks our conversations today. As a French Military Intelligence officer, Cousteau would have been quite familiar with rich and flavorful red wines and would have enjoyed them at almost every meal. We certain he would have been a big fan of Crystal Basin’s tasty red wines. We dedicate our Meau-Faux of the month for June to the legend of the sea – Jacques Cousteau.

Dead Presidents Weekend

Every year we get questions about Dead Presidents Weekend. Because we are all about customer service and we’re always here to help, this year we are going to help you operate from a position of clarity. The basic premise is that you hit your safe deposit box and pull out stacks and stacks of valid US currency and trade us for wine. Some other highlights:

There is a US law that will now allow living persons to be depicted on currency. So, all those Obama bucks you’ve got stashed won’t work.
There is another law that says you can’t make your own currency. (Unless you are really, really good at it – then don’t tell us). So don’t bring that homegrown stuff either.
For clarity – size does matter. To be specific, this is a Woody. It would be the best picture of a dead president you could EVER bring up to CBC:

4. If you don’t have a lot of Woodys at your house (of if you are fresh out), here’s what you can expect at CBC from the various presidential pictures on other forms of US currency:

a. $1 George Washington – All You Can Eat Pretzels!

b. $5 Abraham Lincoln – Glass of CB Bubbly or Renegade Red.

Each month, Crystal Basin selects a special Meau-Faux who have made an indelible mark on the world in their own way. This moniker is not to be taken lightly. It takes a LOT to be a Meau-Faux. You have to get up early, stay up late, and in many specific cases, be able to party like a rockstar. We know these personalities and what they stand for instantly. By calling our attention to these leaders, we hope you’ll be able to pull some essence of their spirit into you daily life. They are, quite simply, Meau-Fauxs.

With a brush in one hand and a glass of vino in the other, you’ll escape into a world of color and fun. You will be surprised at how easy it is to create a beautiful painting with the right instructor and the right blood alcohol level! What’s a paint and sip? It’s a 2 hour opportunity for you to get in touch with your creativity while sipping delicious Crystal Basin wines. In today’s hectic world, it is difficult to find time to reconnect to the budding artist inside. Paint & Sip events were created with this in mind. You’ll be given step-by-step instructions to reproduce a pre-selected work of art by a professional artist, in a joyous and stress relieving environment created by the CBC Team. One that encourages “happy little accidents”. 😊 It’s truly an opportunity to relax, uncork, and escape your day-to-day pressures and return to the pleasure of a creative endeavor.

Provence and Burgundy River Cruise

Come Sale Away With Us! March 2024 Provence and Burgundy River Cruise with Amawaterways and CBC.

This is the redux of the 2020 cruise that-never-happened! You know the CBC team – we just don’t give up! We are hosting a pair of kick-off events so folks can ask questions about the experience and, if appropriate, put down deposits on rooms for this exquisite cruise experience at great CBC club pricing.

These no-cost cruise Events are held:

Thursday, February 2, from 4 to 7pm in Folsom – Crystal Basin Station at 813 Sutter Street

Saturday, February 4, from 2 to 4pm in Camino – Crystal Basin Cellars at 3550 Carson Road

This river cruise will be from Arles France going north on the Rhone River into Burgundy on the AmaCello with only 160 happy passengers. Melissa and Mike Owen will be your wine hosts and they are both excited to be returning to some ‘home turf’, as they lived there in the mid-90s for a couple of years. You can expect the most lux accommodations and treatment at the hand of the Amawaterways crew and you can always expect a good and even informative time with Mike and Melissa leading the charge.
